Red Lentil Chickpea Dahl

I need to be honest and tell you that I considered it for a long time if I should post this recipe or not. Don’t get me wrong! It is a mega-delicious ‘one-pot’ meal and I never regretted developing this recipe. But, it is also damn hard to make it look as good as it tastes. It is one of those awesomely-tasting foods which you prefer to make for yourself or for your family, but don’t exactly feel like you will impress the judges of a master-chef audition with it (only because in my opinion those guys care more about aesthetics rather than taste).

Well, I gave it a try anyway and in the end, I think I managed to get some good shots. I am actually pretty content with the result, especially because now I get to share it with you.

I have been going through a lot of changes lately and therefore, I have been neglecting the blog for a while. I do, however, have a lot of projects in the pipe (most of them food related of course) which I hope I will bring to fruition soon. Continue Reading…

Indian Style Kale & Chickpeas

It’s been a long time since I last posted and I have to admit it was mostly due to lack of time. Whenever I sat down in front of the computer with the sole purpose of  selecting pictures and writing recipes I somehow managed to get caught into doing some other long-postponed chore. But now I am back, and I hope I will be posting at least twice a week (this is my new goal).

I have gathered a lot of great recipes during this time and I have also developed a bit of an obsession with Indian food.  The latter does not make my fiancée particularly happy because he is really not a fan of spicy food. Nevertheless, I have been experimenting with different dals and curries and at the same time, I have tried to find a way in keeping the (almost) original taste while reducing the spiciness.

Probably my greatest success so far in combining my favourite ingredients with Indian spices has been this kale and chickpeas dish. I have served it to at least ten of my friends so far and they have all declared themselves more than satisfied. And because many of them have asked me for the recipe I decided this should definitely be “the comeback” dish. (By the way … even my fiancée loves it, therefore there is no danger for the ones who do not tolerate spicy food.) Continue Reading…

Curry Beans

The summer is officially over and even though the temperatures haven’t gone ballistic yet, I already feel like cooking warm and autumny flavoured dishes. For some reason, dried beans have always been on my “cold season” list of foods and I almost never cook them in the summer (I don’t really have a plausible reason for that … ).

One of my favourite “bean dishes” is actually chilli con carne but, because I have considerably reduced my intake of meat lately, I decided to try out a few recipes of chilli “non-carne”. The result: Curry beans!

Although it might sound like a totally different recipe (and you are probably right) I swear I started out thinking this is going to be a meatless chilli con carne (less of the meat though…and the chilli… and almost everything else …). Continue Reading…
